Pragmatic Delivery of Business Value
Enterprise-IT Organizations today struggle to make
sense of the plethora of "best practices",
process frameworks, bodies of knowledge, competing
development paradigms, and software development
lifecycle approaches. This complexity exists in a
business environment where instantiation of governance
controls is now mandated. Such compliance drivers
now exert greater pressure to more seamlessly integrate project delivery and production support
organizations, and to ensure that additional ceremony does not destroy agility.
Process improvement efforts can quickly get out of hand.
Without an understanding of the big picture of how to integrate
this process model into the broader enterprise, such
large scale investments commonly become "Ivory Tower" exercises with limited success
in delivering concrete and tangible value to the
organization.
Typically, consulting practitioners approach delivery
of services as "walking textbooks", having
little practical experience on the ground, or a
sufficient variety of organizational and project
contexts. And, unfortunately most
practitioners do not see IT as a business-oriented
service provider but as a means unto itself. While
most IT practitioners preach the value of Business
Architectural modeling and reasoning to ensure IT
Alignment, they do not approach the problem of
Enterprise IT Process Integration using these same
powerful techniques.
